WordFloor

A private writing habit engine that turns daily practice into a durable green square. Write, hit your word floor, delete the words if you want — the square stays green.

WordFloor is a daily writing habit engine. It builds on the experience and lessons accumulated through WriteDaily’s multiple versions. WriteDaily was first published in 2009 and evolved through several versions. In 2013, it underwent a substantial rewrite and rebrand.

The Problem

Most writing tools optimise for production: word counts that grow, documents that accumulate, a library of finished work. That model works for people who already have a writing practice, but it misses something fundamental about how habits form.

What keeps people writing is not the finished document. It is the knowledge that they showed up.

The Insight

WriteDaily’s accumulated experience revealed a pattern: the features writers valued most were not sentiment analysis, emotional scoring, or gamification. They were privacy, a simple place to write, proof they showed up, and control over what happened to their words afterward.

WordFloor distils that into one interaction. Set a word floor — your minimum daily target. Write. Hit the floor. The square turns green. Delete every word if you want. The square stays green.

Capabilities

  • Private writing surface — no AI training on your content, no social feed, no algorithm
  • Daily word floor — set your own minimum, build the muscle of showing up
  • Streak tracking — durable visual record of practice, not production
  • Delete-safe — you control retention. Write freely, erase freely. The habit record persists.
  • No distractions — no notifications, no leaderboards, no public profiles

Current Status

WordFloor is in active development. The waitlist is open at wordfloor.com. WriteDaily continues running and now points to WordFloor with an explanation of the relationship between the two projects.
