Independent web publishing and consulting business

Published guidance, operated a community forum, and delivered consulting engagements

Website Breakthrough was an earlier web, eCommerce and search-focused business venture I operated between approximately 2006 and 2011. It is now closed.

Situation

By the mid-2000s I was running a business that published web marketing and SEO guidance, offered paid consultancy, and operated a community forum. The site ran on WordPress and was later migrated to a static site on Vercel.

What I did

I owned and operated the business, wrote the published content, and handled service delivery and technical operations.

Relationship to the archived writing

Selected writing from the Website Breakthrough archive has been preserved on Pashley.org. The migrated archive comprises approximately 48 posts from the original site. The preserved posts cover SEO principles and web publishing practices that need no update for current readers. Content that was time-sensitive, commercially promotional, or made unsupported claims has not been carried forward, unless annotated with a note explaining the original context.

What happened

Website Breakthrough is no longer active. I discontinued the consultancy model as my career moved into product leadership, software engineering and technology business operations. The domain is retained for redirect purposes.

Lessons

Running a content and consultancy site taught me that publishing useful guidance and selling services are two different disciplines. The former benefits from specificity and honesty; the latter benefits from clarity about what you will and will not do. I found that writing that names mechanisms and constraints holds up longer than writing that makes promises. I also learned that a community forum built around a business topic attracts more spam than signal. The signal is better created through selective publishing.
